Job Description

Position Purpose:

The Director of Presidential Communications is an excellent communicator and strategic advisor to the President, and is responsible for all the President's communications.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, public administration, public relations, communications/journalism, or related field or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • A minimum of four (4) years of experience in executive level communication responsibilities.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to take the initiative and work independently.
  • Proficient in a range of writing styles, including speech writing, PowerPoint development/presentations, scriptwriting, report writing, Op-ed writing, and correspondence.
  • High level skills in social media, web management, and multi-media, e.g., short videos, photography, podcasts, etc.
  • Experience with the Microsoft Office suite including PowerPoint, and experience in crafting messages using social tools such as Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram and Snapchat.
  • Writing portfolio includes examples of compelling and complex speech writing, published articles, and a familiarity with current issues in higher education.
  • Comfortable working in a rapid-response, team environment. Interpersonal communication skills to work effectively with a wide range of audiences including leadership, faculty, staff, students, alumni, community groups, donors, and elected officials.
  • Experience and comfort working in a deadline-driven environment of multiple projects and quick turn-around requirements.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and proven ability to keep track of and meet numerous deadlines; ability to handle multiple tasks in a timely manner and effectively re-prioritize responsibilities.

  • Experience reporting to and working directly with a senior executive.
  • Experience communicating organizational core values and mission.
  • Experience as an executive speech writer.
  • Experience working within an academic setting.
  • Experience in writing internal communications.
