Position Summary

The University of Central Arkansas is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Web Developer to strengthen our digital presence and deliver an exceptional user experience. This role involves developing, managing, and enhancing functional, user-friendly websites while managing multiple web projects from initiation to post-launch. The ideal candidate thrives in a collaborative environment, can manage multiple web projects, and is passionate about accessible, responsive, and engaging web design.


Reports to the Director of Digital Communication in the Department of University Marketing and Communications within the Division of University Advancement at the University of Central Arkansas.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and design front-end code for webpages using   HTML ,   CSS , JavaScript, and   PHP .
  • Implement responsive, mobile-first designs for seamless performance across devices.
  • Collaborate with campus partners and departments, including Information Technology, to execute web projects efficiently.
  • Maintain, update, and improve university websites and user interfaces.
  • Build and enhance tools to improve website functionality across platforms and browsers.
  • Apply   SEO   best practices to maximize search engine visibility.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve website issues while ensuring compliance with usability and accessibility standards.
  • Train campus partners on WordPress usage and digital best practices.
  • Stay current with evolving web technologies, trends, and industry standards.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proficient in   HTML ,   CSS ,   PHP , and JavaScript (including jQuery).
  • Experience developing and managing WordPress Multisite environments.
  • Strong understanding of responsive design and cross-browser compatibility.
  • Familiarity with   SEO   principles and web accessibility standards (e.g.,   WCAG ).
  • Experience with tools such as Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, and Google Search Console.
  • Working knowledge of database-driven web development.
  • Basic image editing (e.g., cropping, resizing) for web assets.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Required Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Professional web development experience.
  • Hands-on experience working within a web content management system ( CMS ).
  • Demonstrated ability to develop responsive, cross-browser web applications.

Preferred Education and/or Experience

  • Prior experience in higher education.
  • Knowledge of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act ( FERPA ).
  • Experience with search engine marketing ( SEM ), Google Analytics, and Google Ads.
