Role and Responsibilities:  

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) to join our team. This role involves collaborating with kitchen staff to develop balanced, therapeutic, and state-compliant menus, providing nutrition education, counseling, and supporting food safety initiatives.

  • Works with kitchen to develop regular and therapeutic monthly menus for congregate and home-delivered meals that adhere to Connecticut state nutrition guidelines.
  • Analyzes menus using nutrition analysis software and submits to state for approval.
  • Maintains all menus and approvals.
  • Keeps state and funding agency Southwest Connecticut Agency on Aging (SWCAA) apprised of any changes to menu.
  • Develops nutrition information for back of monthly menu/calendar.
  • Works with kitchen to develop, analyze and submit regular home delivered meals menu for New York site.
  • Analyzes New York menus using nutrition analysis software.
  • Help facilitate labeling needed for meals.
  • Collaborates with area nutritionists and dietitians to develop annual nutrition education plan.
  • Schedules all quarterly nutrition education visits with/at congregate meal sites and maintains nut allergy education schedule.
  • Provides brief description of nutrition education topics to senior center directors for advertising in their newsletter.
  • Provides nutrition education surveys following nutrition education, gather and analyze results then implement changes based on those findings; as needed
  • Develops lesson plans, create and gather education materials/handouts for activities to be used for nutrition education.
  • Provides nutrition counseling for various health conditions as requested by clients or from referrals from internal sources or funding agency (SWCAA).
  • Inspects kitchens/food service while at congregate nutrition education visits and provides feedback; as needed
  • Documents inspection findings and maintains records of nutrition education.
  • Documents all nutrition counseling and maintains accurate records of any follow up.
  • Participates in monthly or quarterly nutrition meetings with Connecticut Association of Nutrition and Aging Service Providers (CANASP) and stakeholders
  • Completes required company trainings; as directed.

 

Qualifications:  

  • Must have a valid driver’s license (Required)
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a nutritionist in a school system, healthcare facility, or similar setting (Preferred).
  • At least 2 years of experience in menu planning, nutrition education, and a strong understanding of state guidelines for congregate and home-delivered meals (Preferred).
  • Ability to travel throughout Fairfield County (Required)
  • Strong knowledge of food safety, food hygiene procedures, and the ability to interpret nutrition labels and instructions (Preferred)
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with team members, clients, and external agencies.

Physical Demands:

  • Frequent standing and walking may be required when visiting meal sites, inspecting kitchens, or facilitating nutrition education sessions.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds occasionally, especially when transporting materials for nutrition education or performing kitchen inspections.
  • Regular use of computers and other office equipment for menu planning, analysis, and documentation.
  • Must have the ability to read nutrition labels, analyze menus, and prepare reports with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Must have clear verbal and written communication skills for interacting with team members, clients, and external stakeholders.
  • Requires good manual dexterity for handling food samples, materials, and other nutrition education resources.

 

Environmental Demands:

  • Frequent travel within Fairfield County, including visits to meal sites, kitchens, and community centers. Reliable transportation is required.
  • Occasional exposure to food service settings (e.g., congregate meal sites or kitchens) where food safety, cleanliness, and hygiene practices must be followed.
  • Regular exposure to food preparation areas while ensuring compliance with health and safety standards during nutrition education visits or meal assessments.
  • May be exposed to varying temperatures when traveling between indoor office settings and kitchen environments.
